
Tradisies ~ Traditions
• Die matriekmuur word in 2009 in gebruik geneem. Elke matriekgroep messel aan die einde van die akademiese jaar`n boodskap in die muur in wat na 10 jaar, tydens `n reünie uitgehaal sal word.
• Die “GROOTBOOM” area is uitsluitlik vir die gebruik van die matrieks.
• `n Sementblok word ook sedert 2009 jaarliks gegiet. Die presidente van die betrokke jaar skryf dan hulle name en die jaartal in die nat sement.
• In 2011 is `n nuwe tradisie deur die matriekgroep geskep. `n Lang wasgoeddraad word gespan waaraan skooldrag, wat geskenk word, gehang word. `n Draad van 90m is vanjaar vol gehang. Die matrieks van die volgende jaar moet die prestasie probeer verbeter.
• Die “klok” word tydens ‘n seremoniële funksie gelui na oriëntering van graad 8’s en dan ook wanneer graad 12’s die skool verlaat.
• Die “Vlam” word aangesteek by die BK inhuldiging, Interhoër en tydens spesifieke seremonies.
• Die “Vlammie Mannetjie” word by sportgeleenthede gebruik.
• Die snoepie staan bekend as “Mac-Vlammie”.
• Erfenisdag word herdenk deur die dra van kulturele drag deur die leerders.
• Graad 8’s dra beffies tot na hul oriëntering.
• Graad 8’s staan bekend as ‘n “muscka”.
• Alle geboue, areas en/of straatname word benoem.
• Pa-en-seun byeenkomste vind jaarliks plaas.
• Die pretdag vind jaarliks vroeg in September plaas.
• Die gedenkmuur is in gebruik.
• “Die Onderonsie” is die amptelike skoolblad van die skool.
• Slegs die matrikulante swem per geleentheid in die fontein by die restaurant.
• The matric wall was used for the first time in 2009. At the end of the academic year, each matric group cements a message in the wall. This is only opened when that group has its 10 year reunion.
• The “GROOTBOOM” area may only be used by the current matric group.
• Since 2009, a cement block has also been laid yearly. The presidents of that year then imprint their names in the wet cement.
• In 2011 a new tradition was started by the matric group. A long ware-line is erected and uniforms that are no longer needed, are pinned along it. A wire of 90m was filled this year. The matrics of next year have been challenged to improve on this.
• The special school bell will ring at all ceremonial functions such as the inauguration of Grade 8 learners and on the last school day for Grade 12 learners.
• The ‘Flame’ will be lit at specific ceremonies, at the inauguration of the Student Executive body and at Inter High Athletics meetings.
• The Vlammie man mascot will be used at all sport events.
• The tuck shop is referred to as ‘MacVlammie’.
• Heritage day is celebrated by learners wearing traditional clothes.
• Grade 8 learners wear bibs until the inauguration ceremony.
• Grade 8 learners are known as ‘muscas’.
• All buildings, specific areas and streets are named after specific people who played a part in the history of Bergvlam.
• Dad-a-lad functions take place annually.
• The fun day takes place in September of every year.
• The wall of remembrance has been erected.
• “Die Onderonsie” is the official school magazine.
• Only matriculants are occasionally allowed to swim in the fountain outside the restaurant occasionally.
